She died of brain cancer just a day after it was diagnosed. But Artificial Intelligence (AI) could change that.

One day during my dad's cancer treatment in the hospital, I saw a 5 year-old girl  with oxygen pipe in the nose was being taken on the stretcher to one of the rooms in the floor. The very next day, I saw her father taking her into his arms, resting her on his shoulder and walking across the corridor. I asked him what happened. "My little girl experienced a light head-ache yesterday morning and we brought her here and they said it is 4th stage brain cancer', he replied. An hour after my conversation with him, I saw him taking her daughter in the same stretcher in the corridor back to home. But this time, a lifeless body. She died. It was 14th Nov, 2014, a sad children's day for the family.

But Artificial Intelligence(AI) is transforming the medicine, healthcare and life itself. We are made of trillions of cells. A cell is born, performs its functions, replicates and dies. This is all controlled by genes. A gene is a segment in dna molecule which resides in the center of the cell. Even cellular death is controlled by genes. But in cancer, a small change in DNA molecule (a mutation) causes the cell to grow and replicate uncontrollably, spreading to other organ systems. Cancer is an uncontrolled cell growth.

But a team of researchers at MIT developed an AI machine learning algorithm which takes large amounts of data from people all over the world, examining the CT-Scan images of lakhs of people, they were able to predict a type cancer in a patient in advance. Its all about data science - What food you are taking, how was your life style, what was your family genetic history, what was the quality of air, water and food, which places you are visiting, who are you shaking hands with etc... Taking all of this into account, AI systems can predict diseases way before. With AI revolution, it is all going to be personalized medicine and prevention. It was a good experience at Meridian school, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, taking on AI in healthcare today. Mind=Blown. Appreciate Sahaya initiative, by Ganges Valley School, Hyderabad for the idea of using technologies to solve community problems. AI will make humans immortal.
